Ophthalmologist

Duties and responsibilities: Ophthalmologists are physicians who specialize in the treatment of eye disorders and diseases.  They treat vision problems and write prescriptions for both pharmaceuticals and corrective eyeglass lenses.  When necessary, they perform eye surgery.  Most ophthalmologists are in private practice, however some are employed by hospitals or clinics, and others perform research.

Salary:  $90,000 - $150,000

Education: Only physicians may study to become ophthalmologists.  After completing medical school and an internship, an ophthalmologist must then complete a three to five year residency in an approved ophthalmology program.  After completing their residency program they must pass an examination to be certified.

Reflection: i would want to become a ophthalmologist because it seems pretty interesting to become one. I look like more hands on projects and I am into the projects that involve my hands that is how I become more related or familiar with the place. 

Home health aide

“Home Health Aide”

Duties and Responsibilities: Home health aides usually work for companies that provide in-home assistance to ill, injured, elderly, or disabled customers.  Their duties include taking the blood pressure, temperature, and pulse of patients.  They help patients get in and out of bed, take baths, and dress.  They also prepare and serve meals as well as perform housekeeping chores like making beds and cleaning rooms.

Salary: $8,000 - $18,000

Education:
Most employers prefer that nursing assistants and aides have a high school diploma or GED certificate.  Some vocational schools and community colleges offer training programs

I would not want to become a HOME HEALTH AIDE because it seems like a very difficult job to do. also I really do not like taking care of people that is one of my weakest subjects I am also very sensitive, and mostly allergic to most stuff so this would not be one of my top choices.

They may specialize according to specific health concerns, illnesses, or work on training settings. Health educators may work as independent consultants or in health departments, community organizations, businesses, hospitals, schools, or government agencies. Health educators often:

·       Design and develop health education programs.

·       Publish health education materials, information papers, and grant proposals.

·       Develop health education curriculum.

·       Teach health in public and private schools.

Educational requirements:

Students should take college preparatory courses during high school.

Health educators have, as a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in health education. Many have master’s degrees. To be certified or licensed to teach health in public schools requires a master’s degree and successful completion of written exam in many states.

In my personal opinion I would not want to be a health educator because health is not my main focus because this means I am going to have to take care of my own health. This seems like a very interesting topic but just not my main focus. 

Epidemiologist

Epidemiologist studies the frequency and distribution of diseases within human populations and environments. Specially, they measure the incidence of disease occurrence and relate it to different characteristics of populations and environments. Epidemiologists perform research, education, and public health practice in universities, government agencies, international organizations, and private corporations. Epidemiologists often:

·      Work on developing or refining methods of methods of measuring and evaluating disease occurrences.

·      Develop and recommend public health policy.

·      Study or research chronic diseases, infectious disease, disease outbreaks, injuries, occupation, and environments.

Average salary: $30,000 - $50,000

Educational requirements:

         Students should take the most challenging high school courses (including AP or IB courses) available in science, math, and English.

         Epidemiologists have, as a minimum, master’s degrees in public health. Undergraduate requirements for admissions into public health graduate programs vary by schools but usually include strong backgrounds in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and or statistics. Also I would not be an Epidemiologist because it is not very interesting.

Sanitarians, or environmental health specialists, enforce government regulations and advise and educate clients. They also improve water and sanitation facilities and are involved in improving the quality of community environments. They often:

·      Collect and analyze samples.

·      Screen samples for possible health hazards.

·      Design or manage sanitation, disposal, and water systems.

·      Oversee disposal of infectious wastes.

·      Develop and manage prevention and education programs.

·      Evaluate and identify health hazards and ensure compliance with regulations.

Educational requirements:

Students should take college preparatory courses especially in mathematics and science, during high school.

A career as a sanitarian or environmental health specialist requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental health or environmental engineering. Many jobs require certification and/or a master’s degree in these, or related fields.

Emergency Medical Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Emergency medical technician or EMTs, usually work in teams of two in specially design ambulance. They provide immediate life or limb saving medical treatment at the scene of accident and injuries as well as transport casualties to hospitals emergency rooms for further care. The job physically demanding and stressful. Emergency medical technicians often respond to:

·         Heart attacks

·         Gunshot woundings

·         Unscheduled childbirth

·         Drownings

·         Other serious medical emergencies

Average Salary: $25,000-$37,000

Educational Requirements:

Student must have a high school diploma ( in some areas GED certificates’ may be substituted) in order to become to an emergency medical technician . Driver education, health, and science courses are strongly recommended and may be required before enrolling in some training programs.

Basic emergency medical technician training includes about 100-120 hours spent time in classroom and 10 hours in a hospital emergency room. Emergency medical technicians are required to pass state  licensing or certification tests and practice in counting education programs . Many emergency medical technicians earn associate degrees in their field.

Most dental schools require entrants to have a bachelor’s degree with emphasis in the sciences.

Dental school is four years in length. In order to practice dentistry following graduation, dentist must pass a national examination.

Reflection summary:
What I learned was that most of the students that choose this carrier end up working under a microscope. To me personally this is not fun because it means having a lot of responsibilities and having to do no mistakes. This also means that you have to be willing to give up some  of your free time just so you can be occupied with being a CYTOTECHNOLOGIST.

Athletic trainer

Duties and Responsibilities:

Athletic trainers work with athletic team, athletes, coaches, and sports medicine physicians. They help develop training programs to prevent injuries as well as rehabilitation programs for the injured. They treat injured athletes under the direction of team or sports medicine physicians. Before athletic events they will bandage, wrap, and affix braces to prevent injuries. They work on the muscles of athletes before and after events. In addition, they may set up nutritional diets and meals for athletes in training. Athletic trainers will also advise on protective gear and on training equipment.

Athletic trainers work for sports teams, schools, colleges, clinics, health clubs, corporations, and hospitals.

Average salary: $25,000- $35,000

Education requirements:

Students should take challenging science, math, and English courses in high school.

To be a certified athletic trainer, students must complete an educational program that includes 1,500 hours of supervised clinical experience. Most programs result in bachelor’s degree from college with an emphasis in physical education.
